A little bit of history of this watch:
The Apollo 13 crew is famously known for their mission which almost costed their life prior to their return to Earth all while using their Speedmasters to time their actions. 14 seconds was all the time they had to execute it perfectly, which inspired the phrase "What could you do in 14 seconds?" to be printed on the dial along with "Failure is not an option".
See below for picture of what the genuine article looks like for reference.
We all know there aren't really good Speedy reps so I didn't bother getting one from trusted dealers. The Narikaa version (GBP108 or USD145 shipped) is favored amongst forum members but unfortunately he is sold out temporarily so I went on to get one from DHgate (USD66 shipped). I will now be comparing the two versions in this post. But before that, specs.
Lume after a few seconds outside:
Deployant clasp:
Caseback:
Dial:
The differences between the DHgate version and his:
- The hand on the 9 subdial is black instead of white
- No speech balloon between the Snoopy and the "Failure is not an option" text
- No lume on the Snoopy @9 and indices
- Standard "First Watch on The Moon" caseback instead of the Snoopy caseback
- "Omega" writing on the DHgate version is printed instead of engraved
- The numbers on the subdial is correct on the DHgate version
Overall, I think the version Narikaa stocks is better but for USD66 shipped, I am more than happy with mine as it was meant to be a novelty purchase.
Thanks for viewing.
